Solar Empires Time Line

2053:  First long term habitation of Mars begins by the Russian Space Agency.

2058:  China and Cuba join Russia with a joint launch.

2060:  Mining colonies pop up in the asteroid belt beginning with Ceres and Venture Star

Prospecting Corporation builds a refueling station in the belt.

2069:  The USAF and NASA build a colony and base on the Moon.

2071:  MO/Frond Station built by a joint third world venture with heavy backing from the Indian government and generous donations from the Middle East and Japan.  It goes bankrupt half way through and is taken over by Canada.  It is a fueling station and hydroponics nursery between Earth and Mars.

2082:  Ganymede is colonized by the European Space Agency (well funded by German banks)

2120:  Titan and Rhea colonized by NASA and the Texas Aeronautics Corporation.

2138:  Mercury mining and heavy industry is established on the dark side.

2120-2180:  Many colonies are established throughout the solar system by joint ventures between government entities and corporations, by government agencies alone and by religious groups (Vatican Station).  These colonies reach as far as the moons of Neptune with further exploration by ships and robotic probes for the Kuiper Belt and beyond.  Terraforming begins on Mars in earnest.

2193:  United Nations assumes governance of Earth and begins population reduction and space colonization programs on a larger, more organized and deliberate scale

2217:  Mars declares it’s independence from the United Nations and becomes the Martian Soviet Socialist Republic a triumvarate of Russian, Chinese and Cuban forces.

2220:  Mars extends its influence into the Asteroid Belt by establishing several mining and military outposts.

2228:  Jovian Republic declares independence from Earth.  Coincides with establishment of military bases on Callisto and a successful beginning to the terraforming of Ganymede.

2232-2235: First Greek Wars.  Jovian Republic and M.S.S.R. fight over the Greek Camp of the Jupiter Trojan asteroids.  Conflict is ended by intervention from Terran forces.  

2253-2258: The First Belt War.  Mars pushes into the Asteroid Belt taking over Ceres and 4 Vesta and numerous other important asteroids.

2290-2295: The Second Belt War.  Mars gains even more of the Asteroid Belt.  Claims entire belt as their dominion and reasserts their claim over the Greek Camp of the Jupiter Trojans.  

2305: The Martian Atmosphere becomes fully stable and gravity enhancements bring the planet to near earth conditions.  

2310: The Terran Alliance if formalized between Earth, the Moon, and Mercury.  The Alliance begins Terraforming operations on Venus.  

2315-2320:  The Terran Martian War.  The Terran Alliance launches an invasion of Mars and the Asteroid Belt.  Despite initial success in the Belt Terran ground forces were devastated at the Battle of New Leningrad on Mars in February 2317.  In May 2317 three Terran fleets were destroyed at the Battle of 4 Vesta.  The Martians then launch an invasion of the Moon in August 2317 and successfully occupy it until the end of the conflict.  Mars finally withdraws when the Jovian Republic declares their entry to the war on the Terran side.  

2380-2382:  The Second Greek War.  The Jovian Republic and M.S.S.R. renew their conflict over the Greek Camp of the Jupiter Trojans.  The Jovians fail to push the Martians out of the region.  The Martians gain no new territory.   

2401-2406: The Privateer War.  The Terran alliance commission several Jovian and private privateers to crush piracy in the outer Solar System.  Many pirate holdings were destroyed and most pirates operating in the outer systems flee to the Kuiper Belt.  

2407-2488:  The Terran Alliance exerts its influence into the Outer Solar System.  Previously the Alliance had claimed these regions but they had mostly been controlled by various corporate interest.

2490-2525: The Great Moon Rush.  With safety and security established in the outer Solar System a great migration takes place.  Millions of people from Earth re-settle in the Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune systems.  Colonist push farther into the Kuiper Belt than before.  Efforts to restore the Earth are taken to even greater heights.  Many large cities are destroyed and their landscapes returned to a natural state.    

2532-2533: The Saturn Revolt.  The Saturn System attempts to declare independence from the Terran Alliance.  This revolt is put down quickly but it cost the Alliance more than they expected in manpower and resources.  

2541: Terraforming of Mars enters it’s final stages.  Mars is now a green planet with oceans, grasslands, and forest.  

2558: Venus becomes “habitable” by way of massive floating cities in the clouds.  

2579: The United Planets and Moons is formed in an attempt to limit large scale conflicts between the major powers in the Solar System.  

2610: Terraforming of Venus advances significantly.  The first settlements are built on the planet's surface.

2617-2644: Advances made during the terraforming of Venus lead to a number of new Terraforming projects throughout the Solar System.  

2647-2659: A combined U.P.M. coalition attempts to eradicate piracy in the Asteroid Belt.  After a long and arduous campaign very few gains are made.  In many areas the surviving pirates become stronger and better armed.  The M.S.S.R. complains that infighting between the leadership of the UPM was to blame and they threaten to pull out of the organization.  

2670: Tensions arise again between the Jovian Republic and the M.S.S.R. over the Greek camp of the Jupiter Trojans.  After months of negotiations outright war is averted by UPM diplomats.  

2691-2725:  The Ring Wars.  Demands for fresh water for terraforming projects leads to conflict in the Saturn System’s rings as corporations hire mercenaries to fight over the cleanest ice resources.  Pirates are drawn to the regions as well leading to even greater levels of chaos.  The Terran Alliance largely ignores the situation even after battles erupt in the streets of New Texas on Titan.   

2724:  The Saturn System declares it’s independence from the Terran Alliance becoming the Sovereign Republic of Saturn.  Ten’s of thousands of Saturn citizens join the Saturn Guard an entirely voluntary military force.  The S.R.S. government launches a campaign to bring the Ring Wars to a swift end.  The Terran Alliance refuse to recognize the Republic although both the M.S.S.R. and the Jovian Republic recognize the new nation.

2753:  Kuiper pirates establish a strong holding on Orcus and begin a more active period of raiding.  Settlements in the outer Solar System suffer many brutal attacks.  

2781-2796:  Many breakthroughs in artificial intelligence lead to AIs which are utterly  indistinguishable from humans even to other advanced AIs.  The Terran Alliance recognizes Artificial Intelligences as citizens granting them full civil rights.  

2820:  Joseph X8000 becomes the first fully artificial being elected to the presidency of the Terran Alliance.  

2830: The Lunar Revolt.  Citizens of the Moon revolt citing neglect from the Terran Alliance due to the fact that the Moon was never terraformed.  The revolt is violently put down by the Terran Guard and ends when the Tesla dome is vented to space killing 300,736 Lunar citizens.  The M.S.S.R., Jovian Republic, and S.R.S. decry the massacre jointly.  

2831: The Tesla Accord is signed by the members of the United Planets and Moons forbidding the orbital bombardment of domed colonies.  The Sovereign Republic of Saturn issues a statement recognizing the accord as well.  

2833: Kuiper Pirates vent the Tyson Dome on Triton killing 45,359 citizens.  Fortunately many are spared due to precautions taken by all domed colonies after the Tesla tragedy.  The Pirates raid several more settlements on Triton until the S.R.S. sends a voluntary fleet of Privateers to stop them.  

2834: The Terran Alliance sends the 9th Alliance Fleet to the Neptune system fully six months after the Tyson Massacre.  After a tense standoff with S.R.S. forces the 9th Fleet begins patrolling the Neptune and Uranus systems.

2842: Kuiper Pirates raid Vatican Station on Christmas Eve devastating the station and killing the Pope and most of the College of Cardinals.  Only a handful of Clergy and Swiss Guard survive the attack.  The S.R.S. again responds more quickly than the Terran Alliance in sending aid and military support.  

2845-2857: The Papacy temporarily relocates to Titan while Vatican Station is rebuilt.  

2865: The S.R.S. and several corporations help to establish the Kuiper Rangers an organized militia of Kuiper Citizens to combat the ever growing problem of the Kuiper Pirates.  

2884:  Oberon is attacked by Kuiper Pirates.  The pirates raid the moon for three months before there are driven away by militia, privateer, and S.R.S. forces.  The 9th Alliance Fleet claims that supply issues kept them at the Neptune system.  

2884-2889:  The citizens of the Neptune and Uranus systems protest the neglect of the Terran Alliance.  Riots erupt in those system.  Many Terran officials are attacked.  In March 2889 the 9th Fleet Starbase orbiting Triton is attacked by a force of renegades claiming to be the “Independence Coalition”.  This force uses old fuel tankers to ram that station prior to their attack.  The attack causes massive damage to the station.  The Terran Alliance blames the S.R.S. for inciting rebellion in the Uranus, and Neptune systems.  

2890: January 2890 The governments of the Neptune and Uranus system declare their independence from the Terran Alliance.  The S.R.S. and the governments on Neptune and Uranus form the Independence Alliance.  

2891: The Terran Alliance declares war on the Sovereign Republic of Saturn and launch an invasion force in July of that year.  

2891-2903: The Outer Systems War.  The Independence Alliance Joins forces to fight off The Terran invasion force of the Saturn System.  The Terran forces occupy Titan and most of the Saturn System for the first nine years of the war.  The Terran Alliance opps to use a 90% robotic force during the conflict which proves to be brutally efficient.  Several other moons in the Uranus and Neptune system fall to Terran forces.  Despite massive devastation the Independent Alliance forces fight on.  By 2900 the M.S.S.R. and Jovian Republic levy massive sanctions against against the Terran Alliance and join together to refuse the Terran Alliance passage through their space.  By 2901 Terran forces pull back to Titan unable to maintain their supply lines against numerous Martian and Jovian Privateers.  On November 16th 2902 three Terran Fleets are destroyed attempting to reinforce their forces on Titan.  On January 4th 2903 Terran Forces completely withdraw from the Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune systems.  By June 2903 the Treaty of Titan is signed ending the conflict.  

2904:  The Independence Alliance formally becomes The Confederacy of Outlying Systems.  The Confederacy jointly forms the Confederate Navy and Confederate Marine Forces but each system also forms it’s own defense forces.

2905:  The Terran Alliance formally recognizes The Confederacy of Outlying Systems.

2910-2913: The Second Lunar Revolt.  Still dissatisfied with their conditions The People's Lunar Army forms from several groups of protesters.  For three years they conduct a guerrilla war against Terran Alliance forces on the Moon.  At the end of the conflict promises are made to move forward plans to terraform the Moon.   

2952:  The M.S.S.R. relaxes economic restrictions in the Asteroid Belt.  Ceres, already the main port of Martian space, becomes completely covered in urban spaces.  

2972:  Without any reason the Terran Alliance announces that it is pulling out of the United Planets and Moons.  Travel to Earth becomes even more restricted and the Earth Security Force is established to enforce these restrictions.  Armstrong Dome on the Moon becomes the de-facto capital of the Terran Alliance.  The headquarters of the United Planets and Moons is moved to Titan.  

2978:  Without the support of the Terran Alliance the U.P.M. crumbles.  An arms race begins between the System Powers.

2980: The Jovian Republic restyles itself “The Jovian Empire”  Elects Emperor Heinrich I to be Emperor for Life.    

2988-2990: The Third Greek War breaks out The Jovian Empire gains ground in the Greek Camp of the Jupiter Trojans.  At the end of the conflict the Empire controls ¾ of the Green Camp.  Emperor Heinrich I is assassinated shortly after the end of the conflict.  The Martians deny involvement but popular opinion is that they were responsible.   

3010-3013: The System War  Emperor Heinrich II mobilizes forces against the M.S.S.R. Striking directly at Mars and Ceres with massive invasions forces.  The C.O.S. enters the conflict in early 3011 on the side of the M.S.S.R.  The Jovians immediately Launch invasions of of the Saturn and Uranus system.  Confederate forces are forced to retreat from the Saturn system by the end of 3011.  The Confederate government is relocated to Triton for the remainder of the war.  By mid 3012 Martian forces manages to repel the Jovian Invasion force from Mars itself but they are unable to push the Jovians off Ceres or out of the belt.  Early in 3013 The Terran Alliance Enters the war.  The Terran’s launch an invasion of Ganymede which swiftly brings an end to the conflict.  Emperor Heinrich II retires to Venus.  Emperor Heinrich X is elected to the Imperial throne.  

3014: The Confederacy of Outlying Systems builds Liberty Station in Neptune’s orbit to serve as its capital city.

3015-3018 The Trojan War.  Communist uprising take place in the Trojan camp of the Jupiter Trojan.  Emperor Henric X attacks the Martian territories in the Greek camp and Ceres.  The revolt in the Trojan camp is put down easily and the Martians repel the Jovian invasion of Ceres with the help of Confederate mercenaries.

3019:  The Ceres revolt.  The M.S.S.R. tightens its economic policies on Ceres and the Asteroid Belt.  A brief revolt erupts on Ceres.  Mercenaries put the revolt down but economic policies in the region are relaxed back to their pre-war, status.    

3026-3027: The Confederate Civil War.  The Saturn System attempts to strong arm the rest of the Confederacy into transforming into a Federalist Republic.  

3028: Jovian Uprisings.  The strict militaristic rules of Emperor Heinrich X leads to a brief uprising on Europa and Ganymede.  Mercenaries are employed to put the revolt down.   

3031-3033: The Station 42 War.   A small scale conflict starts of Titania when the Smith and Wilson Agriculture Corporation hires the Hell Knights Mercenary Company to “enforce” its claims to a large territory around a shuttle port known as Station 42.  The Confederate and Titania government turn a blind eye to the conflict.  Early in the conflict the mercenaries are opposed only by small militia bands but as time goes by protest start throughout the Confederacy.  Elements of the Titania Guard go rogue and join the militia units fighting the Hell Knights.  Confederate Protesters crowd fund millions of credits to hire The Wolfhound Freikorps mercenary company to aid the militia forces as well.  Late in 3033 the Hell Knight base near Station 42 is destroyed by opposition forces including a Platoon of Martians from a nearby Martian military base.  Smith and Wilson Agriculture Corporation relinquish their claim to the region.  

3033:  Emperor Heinrich X threatens war with the Martians after communist revolts take place in the Trojan Camp of the Jupiter Trojans.  

3034:  Baron Gunther Rittermark of 3317 Paris in the Trojan camp of the Jupiter Trojans is deposed by his Uncle Anton Rittermark with the help of the Wolfhound Freikorps mercenary company.  The Emperor announces the support of this invasion citing that the baron had communist sympathies.  Protest against this statement are met with swift and brutal response.
